Winner of the 1937 Pulitzer Prize, “You Can’t Take it With You” presents conflicting ideas of the American Dream by bringing together two very different families. The Kirby family comes from Wall Street, where making money is the primary measurement of success. The Sycamore family members follow their hearts writing plays, making candy, manufacturing fireworks, collecting stamps and painting pictures. Colliding family values create humorous misunderstandings.

“It champions uniqueness, kindness, creativity, generosity, acceptance and making one’s bliss,” director Susannah Berryman said. “If anyone is having trouble believing they deserve to be true to themselves, I hope they will feel supported in their right to do so.”

The “You Can’t Take It With You” production team features the work of many students, including scenic designers Sami Adamson ’15, costume designer Rhiannon Randall ’15 and lighting designer Zach Blitz ’15. The technical director is Dan Wendel ‘15, the stage manager is Kelly Frisch ’15. The play’s sound designer is Associate Professor Don Tindall.
