On the evening of April 18 two students participated in a public debate for the residents of Longview. Nicole Ang (Applied Psychology and Legal Studies, ‘17) and Casey Phillips (Legal Studies ‘17) debated over the right to die with dignity. Morgyn Sattenspiel (Psychology, ’15) served as moderator.
The debate was well attended and fostered a lively conversation. The event was a result of an invitation from Gerontology Professor Christine Pogorzala who is the Coordinator of the College’s programmatic partnership with Longview. The students prepared in CMST 21900 Argumentation and Debate taught by Assistant Professor Scott Thomson. Thomson commented, “Students have debated at Longview on several occasions and the presentations keep getting better. It is a wonderful synergy – students benefit from presenting to a real audience and the audience gets to hear good clash over important issues.”
