Therapeutic Recreation students Harmony Graves Malone, Kate Basile, Rachel Sitek and Angela Miranda co-presented a four-hour pre-conference institute with Dr. Janice Elich Monroe, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies, at the New York State Therapeutic Recreation Association’s 20th Annual Multi-Day Conference held April 25-28 in Saratoga Springs, New York.
The institute titled, The BREATH {Pathway: Enhancing Functional Skills and Coping Strategies of Stroke Survivors, highlighted the results of a pilot study of a Therapeutic Recreation/Speech Language Pathology and Audiology intervention that was implemented at the Center for Life Skills during the Fall 2014 semester.
Susan Durnford, Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, was the Clinical Supervisor for the SLPA students during the implementation of the pilot study.
At the same conference, Dr. Elich Monroe presented a session titled, The BREATH {Pathway to Personal and Professional Success.
An alumni reception was also held at the conference, with many alumni in attendance. The Dean of the School of Health Science and Performance sponsored this alumni event.
