The School of Music bids farewell to Townsend Plant, director of music admissions and assistant dean of preparatory and summer programs. Announcing his resignation last week to faculty and staff, Plant has accepted a new position as associate dean for enrollment and student life at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University.
Following his last day on August 21, Plant will be providing leadership for a newly unified enrollment division at Peabody, which includes the offices of admissions, financial aid, registrar, and student affairs.
Plant returned to the School of Music in 2013, joining the college from Binghamton University, where he served as assistant provost for admissions. He also served as director of admissions for Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music (2008-2012). Prior to that, he led the Ithaca College School of Music admissions office (2001-2008).
“I have so enjoyed my time back at Ithaca College working with our amazing faculty and staff,” Plant said. “As an alumnus, having the chance to work at a school that is so important to you is a rare opportunity. To be able to do it twice in your career is a gift.”
Plant holds both a B.M. and M.M. from Ithaca College in classical guitar, and a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) degree from the Eastman School of Music.
