Helping Underserved Populations: Assessing Skills and Behaviors to Improve Student Success

Date: Tuesday, July 28
Time: 1 p.m. - 2 p.m.
Location: Peggy Ryan Williams Center, HR Conference Room

Research shows that many groups, such as first-generation college students and minority students, have been traditionally underserved by higher education. Despite many institutions’ efforts to provide targeted resources, these groups succeed at disparate rates. Yet looking beyond demographic or socioeconomic characteristics and creating tailored action plans can help improve students’ likelihood for success.

In this webinar, we will discuss a skill- and behavior-based approach to student success, using holistic and noncognitive assessment that not only helps identify a student’s likelihood for success, but also provides targeted strategies for focusing on the strengths and challenges that each student faces. Additionally, we will share an institutional story describing work to engage Hispanic and Latino students, explaining how this approach has helped foster and structure conversations around student success.
