Patricia Zimmermann, professor of Screen Studies and codirector of the Finger Lakers Environmental Film Festival, was the invited featured speaker at the Institute for Research on Women and Gender at the University of Michigan, May 14-17, 2015.
She presented in the working symposium “Contemporary Feminist Video Documentary Strategies in Social Dissent, ” which gathered together photographers, documentary filmmakers, new media designers, and critical studies scholars to probe the new topographies of feminist documentary engagements.
Zimmermann’s talk, entitled “Thinking through Feminist Digital Open Spaces,” probed international collaborative feminist new media projects organized around participatory and relational art modalities. Her talk was based on her new book, Thinking through Digital Media: Transnational Environments and Locative Places. More on the book HERE
