Starting this Fall, Digital Media Services (DMS) will no longer have our wide-format printer in Job 103. All of our print orders will now be made through the Center for Print Production (CPP).
DMS staff will still provide design services, free of charge. We will still help you order your prints and make sure they look great. Your prints will still be ready for pickup at our Job 103 lab. The only thing that changes is that the CPP will be the ones doing the actual printing and subsequent account billing.
When we looked at the numbers to replace (or service and repair) our printer, we found that this cost was way too much money to be spent when we have an amazing print center that can deliver higher quality prints at a much lower price than we could ever offer. Also, the print center has all sorts of great options like foam core mounting and the ability to print on vinyl, corrugated plastic, etc.. They have better options for paper color, size, thickness, binding, folding, cutting, and much much more.
I know that many of you have used our print services as a convenient “last-minute” option for quick turnarounds. Most of the time my students were able to accommodate your requests. I think you will find that the print center is very responsive, and typically maintains the same average turnaround times that we did. Also, the print center can work with you to find an appropriate solution for your “emergency” printing needs.
It's important to note that the print center can now take your print orders online. https://typeset.ithaca.edu/ This is a very easy way to order and track your prints.
I hope that this news makes sense to you and you can see how removing duplicated services can help the college save time and money. Also, I wanted to make sure you are aware and can plan your print projects with enough advance time to have your final print when you need it. Thank you!
