Join us for cake to celebrate recent LGBTQ rights victories! The Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen film series at Ithaca College begins Tuesday September 1 at 7 pm in Textor 101, with cake for those in attendance, and a screening of “Gay Pioneers.”

Titled “#MoreThanMarriage: Marriage and Beyond,” the screenings will celebrate the at times almost unbelievable successes of the last few years, while bringing to the forefront the work still remaining toward establishing the rights and safeguarding the lives of the most marginalized in LGBTQ communities.

All of the films will be shown at 7 p.m. in Textor 101 and are free and open to the public. The first fall screening, “Gay Pioneers,” will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

On July 4, 1965, a small group of gay and lesbian activists from New York, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia laid the foundation for the organized LGBTQ civil rights movement with demonstrations in front of Philadelphia’s Independence Hall. “Gay Pioneers” is the story of the people who planned these protests, putting everything on the line in their quest for freedom.

The Out of the Closet series is sponsored by the college’s Center for LGBT Education, Outreach, and Services. For more information, visit www.ithaca.edu/lgbt
