Ithaca College EH&S personnel have begun conducting fire and evacuation drills for all campus owned and occupied buildings.

As required by the New York State Fire Code, Ithaca College Environmental Health and Safety personnel have begun conducting fire and evacuation drills for all campus owned and occupied buildings. The fire code is very specific as to when drills are held, and how many drills are required each year. A simple explanation of the code requirement is that all residential life buildings must have four drills per year while all academic or business occupancies must have three. As is always the case, you are required to exit a building in a safe and expedited manner any time the fire alarm system is activated, and then gather at your building’s established meeting spot. EH&S will attempt to avoid conducting drills during study weeks, exam weeks etc., and every effort will be made to conduct the drills during reasonable weather. If you are aware of a specific date or time that may be a conflict (exam, lab, etc.) please advise our office with this information and we will attempt to avoid the time period. Please note that normally scheduled classes are generally not a reason for a conflict. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask the EH&S staff conducting the drill. Working together we will maintain fire code compliance while demonstrating a commitment of providing a safe environment for our students, staff and faculty. Thank you.
