“War and Whistleblowers: Challenging the Propaganda,” an intimate evening with Norman Solomon, author, media critic, and champion of whistleblowers, will be held Thursday, Sept. 10, 7 PM in the Center for Natural Sciences.

Pizza, salads, and drinks will be provided, and the talk will include an audience Q&A.

One of the world’s most dedicated and tenacious champions of whistleblowers and the journalists who expose their stories of government and corporate malfeasance, Norman Solomon will show clips from War Made Easy, the documentary film made from his book of the same name.

The author will also discuss his tireless work in support of such whistleblowers as Edward Snowden (NSA) and Jeffrey Sterling (CIA), as well as journalists such as James Risen of the New York Times. Solomon led the international campaign for Chelsea Manning to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and recently visited WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in his refuge at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.

Solomon will illuminate the current situation, about which he wrote in a recent column: “The Obama administration has made America a powerful role model for impunity, with unapologetic violations of international law.”

Journalism and politics scholars may be most interested in this subject matter, but everyone who believes in inclusive and open democracy should know what the government is doing in our name.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodation are asked to contact Brandy Hawley, bhawley@ithaca.edu; 607-274-3829, as much in advance of the event as possible.
