IC Theatre will begin its 2015-16 season by presenting Shakespeare’s “As You Like It,” marking the IC directing debut of department chair, Catherine Weidner. This comedy combines a road movie, a buddy picture, a love story, and a battle of wills. The fall musical will be “A Chorus Line,” directed and co-choreographed by musical theatre professor and choreographer, Mary Corsaro, who will be retiring in the spring after more than 30 years teaching at IC. In December, the theatre presents “Anon(ymous)” by Naomi Iizuka. Based on Homer’sOdyssey, the play traces the journey of Anon through the United States as he searches for his mother. Anon encounters menacing and enticing characters and struggles with his identity as a young immigrant. “Anon(ymous)” will be directed by Jen Wineman, an esteemed guest at IC through the Stage Directors and Choreographers Guest Artist Initiative program. Tickets to “Anon(ymous)” are not included in subscription packages.
A second guest director will be taking the helm of the annual operatic collaboration between IC’s School of Music and the Department of Theatre Arts. Theatre alum R.B. Schlather will be directing Handel’s “Semele,” a classic tale of fatal attraction. The spring musical is “Dogfight,” with music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and book by Peter Duchan. Set in the 1960’s, this contemporary musical follows a young Marine as he returns home from Vietnam, fighting his memories and seeking love and redemption. Wrapping up the season is Tom Stoppard’s masterpiece, Arcadia. With memorable characters situated in both the 19th and 20th centuries, Arcadia is a witty and compelling study of the nature of people, events, and phenomena both natural and artistic, real and imagined.
In addition to our main-stage season, IC Theatre offers a variety of productions in Dillingham’s Studio 2 space. Scheduled this year are “She Kills Monsters,” by Qui Nguyen (October) and a devised work by acclaimed playwright Saviana Stanescu (February.) Tickets to these productions are free but reservations are required.
