Although it may seem that Ithaca College just completed its periodic review for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education a couple of years ago, it is time to begin preparations for our ten-year re-accreditation visit, which will happen in Spring 2018.  Our self-study report will be due in Fall 2017.  I am pleased to announce that Luke Keller, Professor of Physics and Astronomy, and Bonnie Prunty, Director of Residential Life and Judicial Affairs, have generously agreed to serve as co-chairs of the Middle States Self-Study Project.  In addition, we will have seven committees, each working on one of the seven standards every college must meet to be (re)accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.  Each of these seven committees is co-chaired by a faculty member and a staff member, as follows:

1) Mission & Goals
Benjamin Costello (Advancement) and Professor Lauren O’Connell (H&S:  Art History)

2) Ethics & Integrity
Susan Bassett (Athletics) and Associate Professor Barbara Morgenstern (Park: Media Arts, Sciences and Studies)

3) Design and Delivery of Student Learning Experience
Nicole Eversley-Bradwell (Admissions) and Professor Scott Erickson (Business:  Chair of Marketing and Law)

4) Support of the Student Experience
Michele Lenhart (OSEMA: Leadership) and Professor Deborah Martin (Music:  Chair of Music Performance)

5) Educational Effectiveness Assessment
Lis Chabot (Library) and Associate Professor Julie Dorsey (HSHP:  Occupational Therapy)

6) Planning Resources and Institutional Improvement
Marc Israel (Asst Provost) and Professor Susan Swensen Witherup (H&S:  Biology)

7) Governance, Leadership, and Administration
Tim Carey (AVP Facilities) and Associate Professor Stanley Seltzer (H&S: Mathematics), selected at the recommendation of Faculty Council

You can read updates about our work on the Self-Study Project here:  www.ithaca.edu/middlestates.  At that website, you can see the timeline we’ve established for the different phases of work we’ll be doing in preparation for the visit in the Spring 2018 semester as well as the structure we’ve prepared for that work.

Later this semester, please be on the lookout for an announcement about how you can volunteer to serve on one of these committees.
