The Ithaca College women's golf team won its 6th straight Empire 8 title as sophomore Indiana Jones was named Player of the Year.
The Ithaca College women's golf team extended its streak of Empire 8 championships to six with a 39-stroke victory Sunday at the Ravenwood Golf Course in Victor, N.Y.
Sophomore Indiana Jones was named the Conference's Player of the Year after shooting a two-day score of 108 on the par-73 course as the Bombers successfully defended their league title with a 27-hole score of 518.
St. John Fisher College was third (557), followed by Elmira College (567) and Nazareth College (928).
Jones recorded a nine-hole score of 38 Saturday to lead the field after day one of competition. The opening day of the competition was reduced to nine holes due to darkness.
On Sunday, Jones carded a career-best round of 70, three-under par to edge teammate Kyra Denish (125) for the medalist honors. It is the fourth straight year Ithaca has had the Player of the Year.
"The ladies did a great job staying present and focusing on one shot at a time," said Molly Braid, Ithaca's first-year coach.
"They have been working extremely hard since preseason and this weekend they stayed patient with the poor weather conditions. We have been working a lot on how to handle average and below-average shots, and our bounce-back ability is so much better than it was before."
Both Jones and Denish earned first-team All-Empire 8, while senior Mary Rooker was named second-team All-Empire 8 after carding a career-low round of 89 Sunday to tie for fifth. Rooker shot a cumulative 140.
Sophomore Lauren Saylor tied for 12th, while Colleen Vaughn competed in her first collegiate competition for the Bombers.
Ithaca returns to action at the annual Martin & Wallace Invitational, Sept. 26-27 hosted by Cortland.
