The Ithaca College Gerontology Institute is pleased to present:
Pain Management: Ouch! Why Does That Hurt and What To Do About It

Tuesday, October 20
2:00-4:30 p.m.
Country Inn & Suites, 1100 Danby Road, Ithaca

Presenter: Michael Costello, PT, DSc, OCS, MTC, Cayuga Medical Center

This workshop will cover the neurobiology of pain and its management.  A continuum of normal/physiologic pain to abnormal/pathologic pain will be presented. Incorporating this information into the clinical decision making process for conditions such as chronic low back pain, osteoarthritis, whiplash associated disorder, fibromyalgia, and neurogenic pain will be explored. Michael Costello will focus on non-invasive pain management strategies that incorporate a bio-psycho-social approach. Evidence suggests that education about pain mechanisms has a positive effect on pain intensity, disability, pain beliefs and patient satisfaction with care. With greater knowledge, patients and practitioners may then select optimal strategies to manage painful conditions including a range of therapies to address the whole person in pain.

This workshop is free for Ithaca College students, faculty and staff, although registration is required. To register, visit: https://www.ithaca.edu/agingworkshops/facultystaffstudents/
