Antonio Cepeda-Benito, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology and former Dean of Arts and Sciences at the University of Vermont, will be on campus Tuesday December 1 to engage in interviews for the position of Dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences.  The campus community is invited to his open presentation in Textor 102 from 12:05-1:00.

Dr. Cepeda-Benito's research connects behavioral neuroscience and clinical psychology to investigate drug addiction and eating disorders. He has earned a number of teaching awards and also received two National Awards of Excellence from the National Hispanic Science Network on Drug Abuse (NHSN).  In 2009 he was named one of the “Top 100 Most Influential Hispanics” by Hispanic Business Magazine. As dean at the University of Vermont, his accomplishments include implementing a plan to enhance recruitment, retention, and graduation rates, the revitalization of the Humanities Center, creating new interdisciplinary offerings, and lowering class sizes.  Dr. Cepeda-Benito's complete c.v. can be found at this link:

The search committee encourages wide and active campus participation and feedback in this important process. Separate meetings for H&S chairs, the executive committee of its faculty senate, and its dean's office staff have been scheduled; invitations have been sent to those constituencies via email. Our search committee consists of 7 H&S faculty members, a staff member and a student as well as Gerard Turbide, interim VP of Enrollment Management, Roger "Doc" Richardson, interim Chief Diversity Officer and is chaired by Dean Diane Gayeski. The faculty were chosen from among those who self nominated who could attend designated meeting times and who represent a broad range of H&S disciplines and ranks.

The committee will carefully review feedback that you may provide confidentially and (if you choose) anonymously via this link which will be open on December 1 and will close at 9AM on Friday December 11.

The committee received a very large number of credible applications and came to consensus on the four finalists. Throughout the search, the search committee has pledged to protect the identity of candidates.  Obviously, we can no longer promise confidentiality to these finalists, but we hope everyone will bear in mind that each of them currently holds a significant position.  The search committee and our consultant have spoken extensively with those familiar with their work, and any further inquiries about them should be handled with sensitivity and discretion. We will be announcing candidate names and providing links to their c.v.s and individual feedback forms approximately two days before their open presentations on campus which will be:

Thursday, December 3, 12:05-1:00, Textor 102
