"From Engineering to Africa: Building a career from diverse experiences."

How do experiences, scientific and not, influence our career trajectory and research? How do we leverage those experiences to build a skill-set for success? As scientists we’re encouraged to think outside the box for creative solutions in our experimental approaches and product development, but why not apply these same concepts to our own career paths? There’s a lot you can do with a degree in science, and there’s something to learn from every experience. I invite you to come hear about my “non-traditional” career path and how each experience, from early hands-on laboratory experience in the Ithaca College chemistry department to volunteering with the Peace Corps, has provided skills and perspective to guide my current research in developing long-acting biodegradable implants for HIV prevention.

The seminar will be on Tuesday, December 1st in CNS 333 @ 12:05 pm. Refreshments will be provided so please bring your own cup to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact jpellis@ithaca.edu. Please make requests for accommodations as soon as possible.
