I am pleased to announce that a comprehensive search for the position of Director, Energy Management and Sustainability has concluded, and Mr. Jerone Gagliano has accepted my offer to assume this most important post. Jerone’s impressive academic credentials include: Bachelor’s (Mechanical Engineering) and Master’s (Materials Science and Engineering) degrees from Virginia Tech. He also maintains numerous active professional certifications, including: Licensed Professional Engineer; Certified Energy Manager; and, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional.
The mission and accompanying activities of the Energy Management and Sustainability functional unit are of critical importance to our College. Jerone’s initial focus will be to forge collaborative working relationships with our valued students, faculty, staff and community members around the topics of sustainability and energy management; review and update the College’s Climate Action Plan; create a viable Sustainability Strategic Plan; determine means and methods to measure building-specific utility consumption; lead the process to identify potential alternative (green) energy sources; assist the Facilities Maintenance department with identifying and prioritizing efficient solutions as mechanical systems are upgraded or replaced; and, finalize the hiring process for the institution’s next Sustainability Programs Coordinator.
I have every confidence that under Jerone’s leadership, the Energy Management and Sustainability department is going to be successful in pursuit of the aforementioned – and other – agenda items.
