Do you want to volunteer and be a part of something but you're just too busy? Are you interested in creative arts? Social Justice? Ever visited a prison? Join the HEARD Program.
We are a volunteer organization that brings creative arts programming to incarcerated males ages 14-20. We collaborate with other student organizations to provide a variety of mediums as a form of expression, art therapy, and social rehabilitation.
We volunteer every Saturday 1-5pm and transportation is provided. Pick the weeks that you can come. You don't have to come every time, and there isn't a big commitment.
We will have an info session Monday, February 8th at 7pm in Friends 203 for anyone interesting in volunteering or if you want your student org to collaborate and volunteer.*This is not the regular meeting time* There is some very important information, so please come then. New volunteers can only join in these next few weeks because of legal form deadlines. If you can't make it, but want to participate email ehaskins@ithaca.edu.
Past outreaches have included IC Beatbox, Amani Gospel Singers, Cyphers, Spit That, a jazz trio, painting a mural, Irish Step Dancing, and poetry. We are ready for new ideas!
This is an amazing experience to better understand privilege and culture. Everyone is very supportive and the residents are polite and excited to collaborate with us.
