I am pleased to announce the faculty members selected for the 2016-17 London Faculty Sabbatical Program.

Dr. Tatiana Patrone, Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies (School of Humanities and Sciences), will spend the Fall 2016 semester in London. Dr. Patrone has developed the course, ‘Justice, Healthcare, and the Common Good,’ for the London Center and will seek ICC designations. ‘Justice, Healthcare, and the Common Good’ is an “outgrowth of her two primary areas of teaching and research, normative ethics, i.e., inquiry concerning concepts such as ‘common good,’ ‘right’ and ‘wrong,’ and ‘justice’ and her course in Bioethics, a consideration of various ethical issues related to medicine.” Dr. Patrone will consider 19th Century British ethical theory and its current application in QALY, the UK system for medical resource allocation.

Associate Professor Michael Titlebaum (Music Performance, School of Music) is the Spring 2017 London Sabbatical recipient. The Director of Jazz Studies, Professor Titlebaum will teach ‘London’s Musical Culture,’ an ICC-designated course. He notes that “getting students out of the classroom and experiencing the larger community is a critical part of their learning about the culture.” Professor Titlebaum is a saxophonist; while in London he “plans to explore professional connections with the vibrant jazz scene there and in other parts of Europe.”

Dr. Thorunn Lonsdale, the Director of the Ithaca College London Center, joins me and the selection committee in congratulating Dr. Patrone and Professor Titlebaum; she looks forward to welcoming them to the Ithaca College London Center.
