Congratulations to Thi Kim Ngan Tran ’18 and Don Austin, Assistant Director of Community Service in the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs, for presenting at the 2016 IMPACT Conference.
The IMPACT Conference is historically the largest annual conference focused on the civic engagement of college students in community service, service-learning, community-based research, advocacy and other forms of social action. Ngan and Don’s workshop taught students, staff, and faculty how to create and sustain a prisoner education program on a college campus. This presentation is based on the work of the student organization IC Books Thru Bars, which is dedicated to sending incarcerated individuals Through the Northeast reading materials which they can keep or contribute to their prison library. Prison libraries are typically lackluster, restricted, or non-existent.
