Ithaca College is set to host the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Indoor Championships beginning on Friday at Glazer Arena inside the Athletics and Events Center.
The two-day competition will feature 13 men's and women's teams from across the state. Friday's events are slated for a 4 p.m. start and Saturday's session is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
Both Bomber teams are looking to continue their streak of strong NYSCTC performances. The women are hoping to claim back-to-back NYSCTC titles and their 15th overall. The men's team looks to one-up their performance from last year where they finished second out of 11 teams.
The women's team returns one defending champion in senior Alex Rechen, who won the pole vault with a mark of 3.35 meters. Ithaca had some impressive runner-up finishes in last year's championships. Senior Eliza Dewart finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.48 seconds and junior Natalie Meyer was a runner-up in both the high jump (1.55m) and the pentathlon.
On the men's side, the team is returning one individual champion and three relay champions. Senior Andrew Brandt is the defending high jump champion, reaching a mark of 2.03 meters. Seniors Jordan Smith and Aaron Matthias are looking to retain their title in the 4x200-meter relay, which they won with a time of 1:30.62. Smith, senior John Fausold and sophomore Gerardo Munoz look to hold onto their 4x400-meter relay title, where they finished with a time of 3:27.18. Senior Stephen Gomez was a runner-up in the 5,000-meter run, completing the event in 15:21.06.
