The African-Latino Society / La Sociedad Africana-Latina (ALS) was formed in 1969 by a group of African American and Latino students at Ithaca College. Originally named the Afro-Latin Society, these students felt the need to create an organization where other African Americans and Latinos would feel welcomed.
There are 7 executive board positions open for elections. If you are interested in advancing your leadership skills, professional and personal development, and leaving a sustainable legacy at Ithaca College, please join us in the ALS Room (West Tower, just past the lobby) Thursday, March 24, at 7:00pm. This meeting will provide an overview of the organization, its significant history as one of the oldest student-run orgs at IC, and some insight about the open positions. We will also take nominations at this meeting and do a Q&A. Wings Over Ithaca will be provided.
ALS represents, promotes, advocates, and serves the political social, economic, and cultural welfare and concerns of ALANA students. The goal of this organization is to foster a collaborative dialogue and relationship with the campus community while educating and empowering its members, strengthening the ALANA community through programs and policies, and nurturing, encouraging, and providing academic support and a cultural outlet for future leaders.
