Two New Documentaries on the Partition of 1947 to Screen at FLEFF

The partition of India and Pakistan in 1947 and its effect on everyday people is the subject of two new documentaries that will be screened during the 19th Annual FLEFF Festival.

A Thin Wall  is a feature length documentary co-produced by Mara Ahmed and Surbhi Dewan. It is about memory, truth and the possibility of reconciliation. It focuses on the partition of India but derives lessons that remain urgently relevant today. The film is also a work of art infused with original animation, music and literary writing.This film will be screened at Cinemapolis on Thursday, March 31 at 7 pm. Filmmaker Mara Ahmed will answer questions after the screening. Ticket information on the FLEFF website.

Dagh Dagh Ujala: Voices of a Stained Dawn documents the creation of the original theatre piece Dagh Dagh Ujala, based on interviews with Partition survivors. Dagh Dagh Ujala toured to Ithaca College from Pakistan in October 2015. This film will be screened at Cinemapolis on Saturday, April 2 at 2 pm. Producers Kathleen Mulligan (Theatre Arts) and David Studwell will join filmmaker Ali RoOoH (via video stream) for a Q&A after the film. This is a FREE screening.
