Food for Thought will be hosting their 5th annual Hunger Banquet on April 7th from noon to 1pm in Emerson Suites! The event will be an interactive discussion about class-driven food disparities. SLI credit will be offered.
Please join Food for Thought, Sodexo and the Food Bank of the Southern Tier to experience an interactive look at hunger around the world.
This event has a suggested donation of $2 or a canned food item, all of which will go towards the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.
When guests arrive at The Hunger Banquet, they draw tickets at random that assign each to a high-, middle-, or low-income tier—based on the latest statistics about the number of people living in poverty. Each income level receives a corresponding meal. The 20 percent in the high-income tier are served a sumptuous meal; the 30 percent in the middle-income section eat a simple meal of rice and beans; and the 50 percent in the low-income tier help themselves to small portions of rice and water. During this simulation, we discuss the real effects of hunger around the world and how they influence lives and access to resources.
