While its title might suggest otherwise, “Almost, Maine” is anything but ordinary. This town has ideal access to the aurora borealis, or “northern lights”, which serve as a device to bring the whole community together. A series of unique stories about the town’s residents illuminate the fickle emotion that is love. Director Danica Kelley comments, “…something the show does really well is show that love isn’t easy…I think this show is very real. It shows that love gives you something to hold on to. It’s really magical and real.” “The New York Times” agrees, calling it, “a whimsical approach to the joys and perils of romance.”
“Almost, Maine” was chosen as one of the best regional theatrical productions of the 2004-2005 season by the American National Theatre. According to Kelley, this show will resonate with campus audiences, “because everybody in college is at a different point in their romantic experience….and I think that allows people at any point to relate to something in the show. Figuring out who you are is a big part of the college process. It’s a time of human experience and that’s what the show is about.”
This show is lead by director Danica Kelley ‘16, assistant director Ashley Brennon ‘18, stage manager John Fortunato ‘16, and assistant stage manager Jackie Romeo ‘18.
