Engaging in dialogue regarding diversity and inclusion can be challenging when you are unfamiliar with key concepts and language. Doing the work to create a foundation of knowledge needed to cultivate understanding, accountability and a charge to action is crucial. But often, it is difficult to know where to begin.
This workshop can provide an understanding of oppression, privilege, biases, and inequality that are essential when learning about diversity and inclusion. In this workshop, we introduce many important concepts and help you to begin to develop your inclusive lens.
Topics discussed in this training include:
· Defining terms and concepts such as diversity, inclusion, cultural competence, biases, privilege, microaggressions, stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination
· Understanding how your cultural lens has been shaped and enhancing awareness of your attitudes, values, and behaviors, as well as their impact in this community
· Understand the importance in effective personal interactions of being open to other perspectives
· How to serve as a respectful ally; Identify barriers and work to address them
