Ithaca College seeks to hire an Associate Provost for Experiential and Integrative Learning (APEIL) for a pilot 3-year appointment to lead the College’s efforts to develop, implement and enhance high quality opportunities for and the number of students participating in: community-based learning/civic engagement; mentored inquiry; credit-bearing internships; study abroad and/or study away (domestic immersive experiences); and experiential learning.
The APEIL will also coordinate efforts to develop and implement integrated learning opportunities that connect coursework with co-curricular experiences, helping to create immersive learning opportunities for more and more Ithaca College students. Over time the APEIL will take on the supervision of staff and collaborate with faculty coordinators for the various experiential learning areas, including the Director of Civic Engagement, the Assistant Provost for International Programs and Extended Studies, the Director of Mentored Inquiry, and the Director of Honors; s/he will report directly to the Provost and work collaboratively with the other Associate Provosts, the Vice Provost, the Assistant Provosts, the Director of Athletics, the five deans, and faculty and staff across the campus, including colleagues in communication to develop information about our successes in this area that will help us recruit donors and students.
Requirements: Candidates must hold a terminal degree, hold a faculty appointment with tenure at the associate professor level or higher, and depth of experience in at least one of these areas: community-based learning, mentored inquiry, internships, and study abroad. For the 2016-2017 year, the APEIL will have 3 credits of course release in the fall semester and 6 credits of course release in the spring semester. During the course of the year, the APEIL will gradually take on more responsibilities of the job description; the position will become a full-time administrative position as of June 1, 2017; the faculty member’s tenured position will be held through the duration of the appointment so that the APEIL can choose to return to his/her tenured position at the conclusion of the appointment.
The full-time administrative position beginning June 1, 2017 is a twelve month position that will be compensated at the appropriate administrative level (hiring range can be found in the job posting in Taleo).
