I am pleased to announce that Mr. David Weil has been name Interim Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer. He will succeed Keith “Mac” McIntosh, and his official first day in the role will be July 25, 2016. Considering that “Mac” will be leaving on July 22, 2016, Dave’s appointment will allow for him to have some overlap with “Mac” understanding the strategic initiatives that the college will continue to implement.
Dave will be leading the transformed DIIS department, and will be supported by his direct reports in Jason Youngers, Casey Kendall and Mark Fink.
Over his 26 year career he has held a number of positions throughout Ithaca College’s IT organization, most recently serving as the College’s first Director of Engagement and Implementation, leading IT's efforts to engage and interface with the campus, provide SaaS and other application implementation services, and offer business process improvement services. Prior to this, he was the Director of Enterprise Application Services, responsible for supporting the college's main business and Web applications.
He has also been involved in leading numerous aspects of technology services on campus, including student and faculty support, enterprise applications and development, business intelligence, policy development, system administration, and campus-wide technology planning. He has led projects that modernized and expanded the technology services to the institution, including a campus-wide enterprise content management implementation, web portal development, and the emergency notification system deployment. In 1988 he established the college's Educational Technology Day, a regional technology show that attracts 1,600 people annually and is still running strong.
“I view technology as a powerful enabling force for learning, working and communicating. I believe that with the transformations that have taken place in DIIS over the past three years, we are well on our way to implementing our approved five year IT strategic plan and modernizing all aspects of our technology infrastructure to deliver top quality services to the campus” says Dave.
Dave earned his bachelor's degree in computer science, and a master's degree in communications (with emphasis on instructional technology). He is a graduate of the EDUCAUSE 2003 Frye Leadership Institute and the EDUCAUSE 2013 Leading Change Institute. He has presented at numerous conferences, and served on a number of professional committees, including the 2014 EDUCAUSE National Program Committee, the Security Task Force Policy and Legal Issues Working Group, the Professional Development Advisory Committee, and is currently a member of the EDUCAUSE Senior Leader Roundtable Council.
