Submitted on behalf of Michael Leary, Assistant Director of Judicial Affairs.
The Ithaca College Alcohol and Drug prevention team proposed some changes to the College's alcohol policy last spring and they have been approved by the College. The alcohol policy in the Residential Life Rules and Regulations now includes the following additions for the upcoming year:
The Alcohol and Drug Prevention team believes that allowing students under the age of 21 to possess bottles or cans of alcohol, even empty ones, sends an unclear message to the campus community.
In regards to drinking paraphernalia and drinking games, the team believes that these can lead to high risk, unsafe behavior. The goal is to support responsible use of alcohol from students who are 21 and over.
Ithaca College adheres to all New York State laws regarding the distribution, possession, and consumption of alcoholic beverages. It is our expectation that students follow the law and the College's alcohol policy as it will be enforced by Residential Life and Judicial Affairs staff and Public Safety staff. We hope that students will use responsible judgement and make safe and healthy decisions regarding alcohol and have a successful academic year.
