The Ithaca College community is cordially invited to participate in the Second Annual Symposia on Inclusion, Cultural Fluency, and Global Citizenship. The Center for Faculty Excellence, the Office of the Associate Provost for Diversity and Inclusion and Interim Chief Diversity Officer, and the Office of International Programs and Extended Studies are collaborating to facilitate the continuation of the conversation we began last September.
Based on last year’s Fall Symposium, the subsequent learning communities that were convened during the Spring, and the student-led events throughout the academic year, it is apparent that in order to advance inclusion on campus, we will have to support the acquisition of cultural fluency. It is also clear that diversity and tolerance are not inclusion.
This year, we propose to underscore more pointedly the relationship between domestic inclusion and global citizenship in keeping with the expectations of our institutional mission. In order to foster a campus culture focused on the international, we must also address domestic concerns. None of this is possible without you, the Ithaca College faculty and staff, who educate our students in and outside of the classroom. Therefore, please join the conversation about connections between the local and global, the meaning of community, and the constructive ways we can better engage difficult matters on our campus. Thank you for considering this request.
Please reserve these dates on your calendar. We will provide additional information about each individual event in the next few weeks.
The first event in our Symposia series will be held in late September:
