Dr. Andrew Utterson, Assistant Professor of Screen Studies, recently published in peer-reviewed journal Quarterly Review of Film and Video.
Entitled "Practice Makes Imperfect: Technology and the Creative Imperfections of Jean-Luc Godard's Three-Dimensional (3D) Cinema," his article analyzes the 3D films (Adieu au langage and Les trois désastres) of French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard, and situates them as revealing meditations on the evolving technology and aesthetics of cinema. Utterson argues for the particular resonance of an "imperfect" 3D cinema in the context of an established set of technologies and associated conventions of stereoscopic imaging.
