Cedrick-Michael Simmons graduated from Ithaca College in 2014 where he majored in Sociology and minored in African Diaspora Studies. While at IC, Cedrick was a member of the MLK Scholars Program and served as President of Created Equal and Student Government Association. As a student organizer, Cedrick focused on educating administrators about the experiences of marginalized students on campus, and helping students present policy demands to create a more inclusive college. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Sociology at Boston College.
His current research focuses on how college administrators respond to anti-racist protests, and how those responses are shaped by colorblind racism in the academy. He currently works with the student organization called Eradicate Boston College Racism and continues to be mentored by faculty here at IC. We welcome him home to IC as our Featured Speaker in commemoration of National Coming Out Day.
