There will be a special, private screening of a timely, new documentary – “All Governments Lie: Truth, Deception and the Spirit of I.F. Stone” – Tuesday, October 4, 4:15-6:15pm in Park Auditorium. Partly filmed on IC campus and co-executive produced by Jeff Cohen (Park Center for Independent Media director), the feature documentary won warm reviews when it recently premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival.
The movie “stars” independent journalists such as John Carlos Frey, Matt Taibbi (Rolling Stone), Amy Goodman and Nermeen Shaikh (Democracy Now!), Cenk Uygur (The Young Turks), Glenn Greenwald and Jeremy Scahill (The Intercept), David Corn (Mother Jones), along with filmmaker Michael Moore and Watergate hero Carl Bernstein.
All of these individuals were inspired by legendary investigative journalist I.F. “Izzy” Stone; most have come to Ithaca in recent years to receive PCIM’s coveted Izzy Award for independent media. The movie includes scenes of Scahill and Frey speaking to IC students about their passion for muckraking journalism.
The October 4 private screening (limited to IC students, faculty and staff) is part of “News Engagement Day,” a nationwide project of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication to encourage members of the public to become more engaged with news and current events. PCIM encourages more engagement with independent, non-conglomerated media.
