Come join Active Minds for a "Moment of Action" vigil and poignant display of the prevalence of suicide on college campuses October 3rd at 7:30pm, at Free Speech Rock (outside campus center on the Academic Quad). This event is an opportunity for people to come together and be a part of a discussion they are not normally involved in, as well as a time to learn more and create action steps that both individuals and the institution can take.

As a start to the semester's mental health advocacy, Active Minds is planning a vigil for suicide prevention on October 3rd, which is National Day Without Stigma and the last day of Suicide Prevention Month. Active Minds at Ithaca College is a chapter of a national organization dedicated to reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and mental illness on college campuses, since 1 in 4 college students suffer from a diagnosable mental illness.

We will have 1,100 luminaries (decorated bags with glow sticks) as a visceral and tangible representation of the number of students who die by suicide annually and the impact this high prevalence has on college campuses. Not everyone suffers from mental illness, but everyone has mental health.

To decorate a luminary bag, stop by our table in Campus Center Lobby near the info desk between 9am and 3pm Wednesday the 28th- Friday the 30th as well as Monday the 3rd. Learn more about the event, Active Minds, and decorate a bag with the name of someone lost to suicide, a personal note or story, a quote, a reason you speak out about mental health, or cool design!

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Molly Robbins at mrobbins@ithaca.edu. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
