October is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) History Month. Each day throughout the month a video highlighting a different historical figure will be available for viewing in a special section of the LGBT Center Website: LGBT History Month Featured Videos
Each of these 31 leaders were nominated by leaders of state, national and international LGBT organizations and from the public, and have achieved success in a variety of different endeavors, were national heroes, or advanced LGBT civil rights.
The LGBT Community is one of the only communities worldwide that does not always learn its history at home, in the public schools, or in religious or other institutions. LGBT History Month teaches our heritage, provides role models, builds community, and educates about our unique national and international contributions.
This week’s featured historical figures are:
October 1: Virginia Apuzzo, Pioneering Activist
October 2: Josephine Baker, Singer and Actress
October 3: Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister of Luxembourg
October 4: Charles Blow, Journalist and Commentator
October 5: Brian Bond, Activist and Government Official
October 6: Chaz Bono, Transgender Activist
October 7: David Bowie, Rock Star
