Two Ithaca College students, seniors Daniel Tjie and Ryan Bianconi, from the Department of Mathematics presented at MathFest 2016. MathFest, the annual national mathematics gathering of undergraduate and graduate students and professionals – was held at the Hyatt Regency at Columbus, Ohio from August 3 – 6, 2016.
Daniel Tjie, senior Mathematics & Economics double major, gave a 15-minute presentation on the results he obtained on his research, Explorations of Finger Games, a topic in number theory. From May – August 2016, Daniel worked full-time under the guidance of faculty mentor, Professor John Rosenthal in the Department of Mathematics, on his research project as part of the Summer Scholars Program supported by the Humanities and Sciences Department at Ithaca College.
Ryan Bianconi, senior Mathematics major, presented his research, Applications of the L2 transform to Dawson’s Integral, which he worked on in previous semesters. During the summer, Ryan worked on another project under the guidance of Professor Osman Yurekli in the Department of Mathematics, utilizing The Riemann Hypothesis: A Million Dollar Problem by Roland van de Veen and Jan va de Craats (MAA 2015) as the main resource, as part of the DANA Internship Program also supported by the Humanities and Sciences Department at Ithaca College.
Both Summer Scholars Program and DANA Internship provide undergraduate students in the School of Humanities and Sciences at Ithaca College with the opportunity to work and engage full-time on research, scholarly, or creative project during the summer mentored by a Humanities and Sciences faculty member.
