With Professor Nicholas Muellner

This program provides students with an opportunity to continue their study of photography and historical and contemporary art, working in the incomparably rich cultural settings of Rome, Italy. Program includes a trip to the Venice Biennale – the largest and most important international contemporary art exposition in the world.
This course will take advantage of the incomparably beautiful, iconic, historically rich city of Rome to simultaneously pursue photographic work and art historical study. In Rome, we will explore Renaissance and Baroque visual and narrative styles, applying them both to photographic experiments and to our analysis of contemporary global art in Venice.
This course satisfies an Art History elective requirement in the BS Still Photography and BFA in Film, Photography and Visual Art degrees. No prerequisites. Preference given to those with course experience in photography, film, writing, visual art and art history.
Program costs will include tuition (3 CPMA credits), studio fee and housing in Rome (Cornell apartments in the very center of the city), museum entrance fees, four-day trip to Venice and International Student ID. A competent digital still camera, laptop computer and money for meals will be required. Italian language skills are helpful but not required. Estimated program cost: $4,150 (not including airfare).
