The Park School of Communications is proud to screen Fair Haven on Friday, November 4 at 5pm in Park Auditorium.
Fair Haven was written by assistant professor Jack Bryant. A Q&A with professor Bryant and special guest, award winning filmmaker and director Kerstin Karlhuber will follow the screening.
About the film:
James, a young piano prodigy, returns home to his family farm after a long stay in ex-gay conversion therapy, which he took part in following the death of his mother. At home, James is immediately confronted with the expectations of his emotionally-distant father Richard, who believes he should give up his music and take over the family farm. James reluctantly agrees in an effort to please his father and make up for his past, which he is now ashamed of. Soon, however, James finds himself face-to-face with a former lover, Charlie, who wants to help him turn away from his new beliefs and follow his dreams of studying music. James continues trying to please his father, and his new religious teachings, going so far as to start a new relationship with Suzy, a young woman in town. As the summer progresses, James continually finds himself at odds with what everyone else wants for him and what he wants for himself.

The film was written by Jack Bryant and directed by Kerstin Karlhuber, of Silent Giant Productions, with Tom Malloy, of Trick Candle Productions, producing. It was shot in Victor, NY and stars Michael Grant (Secret Life of the American Teenager), Tom Wopat (Dukes of Hazzard), Gregory Harrison (Trapper John MD), and Josh Green (Alvin and the Chipmunks: Road Chip). Also appearing are Lily Anne Harrison and Jennifer Taylor (Two and a Half Men). Cinematography by Jason Beasley, Editing by Frank Reynolds, and score by Christopher Farrell. The film has screened theatrically and in festivals in the United States and Europe and is being distributed in the US by The Little Film Company.
