With Halloween approaching, IC wishes you a happy Halloween night and weekend! Each year, we like to share with the campus community some thoughts on how to keep your Halloween safe and enjoyable.
- Check out the Jack O’Lantern Jive! event sponsored by IC After Dark on Friday, October 28 from 8 to 11 p.m. It will be a spooky night filled with free food, prizes, and activities. See you in Emerson Suites for this Halloween treat!
- Contact Public Safety at 607-274-3333 to report any activities or behaviors that are dangerous, unhealthy, or make you feel unsafe. If you are out on campus, Public Safety can provide an escort to your destination if you call the number above or utilize a blue-light phone. For more information on available safety and support resources visit tips personal safety page and the services and resources page.
- Please keep your Halloween costumes and decorations appropriate and safe. Costumes that inappropriately depict or appropriate other cultures can be hurtful to our campus community. Costumes that use simulated weapons can cause confusion or fear and endanger you and those around you. Also, please be reminded that Ithaca College policy prohibits the use of firearms and other weapons, and that this policy extends to BB guns, pellet guns, spring-loaded guns, paintball guns, etc. If you have questions about the safety of a costume idea, you can contact Public Safety for additional information and feedback.
- A message was recently shared with the campus community about the increasing number of “scary clown” hoaxes around the country. Halloween is an important time to remember the key points from that message, which include not perpetuating a hoax by sharing it on social media, reporting any valid firsthand information of a threat to Public Safety, and of course not participating in any such pranks yourself. Please note that wearing a costume—clown or otherwise—is neither illegal nor a violation of Ithaca College policies, and we can expect to see more people around campus in costumes over the next week.
We hope the tips above will help you have a fun, safe, and healthy Halloween. Always feel free to contact college staff and resources if you have additional questions.
Once again, Happy Halloween from Ithaca College to all members of our campus community!

Terri Stewart, Director, Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management
