As part of our mass media research final paper, my partner Cecilia Morales and I will be conducting a focus group discussion on Latina women in television sitcoms and films. All IC students are welcome to join the discussion on Monday, Nov. 7 and/or Wednesday Nov. 9 from 6-8 p.m in Williams 320.
The focus group discussion grants anonymity to all participants and we, the moderators, will only be there to steer the discussion. The discussion will focus primarily on Latina women in television sitcoms like "Devious Maids", "Orange is the New Black", "Ugly Betty" and films such as "Desperado", "Maid in Manhattan", and "Spanglish". It will all be related to how the media shapes society's perception of Latina women and sets certain standards for Latina women. Bring your friends and anyone who may be interested!
