You are invited to a midday treat of wit and wonderment as Theatre Arts performance majors in the Styles of Acting course present scenes from George Bernard Shaw, Noel Coward and Oscar Wilde.
On Monday November 7 at 12:15 p.m. in Studio 4 of Dillingham Center, students will present scenes from Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest (1895), George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion (1913) and Noel Coward’s Present Laughter (1939).
These three English playwrights were at the top of their form when they wrote these plays, and they established the tone and technique of successive “comedies of manners.” The influence of these plays on movies, television and plays can be observed to this very day.
As Oscar Wilde wrote in The Importance of Being Earnest: "The truth is rarely pure and never simple." Seldom has this truism been truer than in our presentation of "Wilde about Coward and Shaw."
This event is free and open to the public. Bring your brown bag lunch and a friend for the most laughs you will have all week.
