Jennifer Lyons (Art History) to Speak about Chartres Cathedral on November 16

The IC Medieval and Renaissance Colloquium announces a presentation by Jennifer Lyons, Art History, titled  "Synagoga, Ecclesia, and the Typological Imagination at Chartres Cathedral."  Prof. Lyons will give her talk on Wednesday, November 16, at 5:30 in Business 103.  All interested members of the IC community are invited. 

 

Jennifer Lyons is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Art History.  She has her Ph.D. from Emory University (2016), with a dissertation on the legend of St. Theophilus in northern Europe from the 9th through 14th centuries. At IC, Prof. Lyons teaches Episodes in Western Art, Introduction to the Medieval World, and Islamic Art.  She has also taught at Clark University (Worcester, MA) and Tufts University (Boston, MA).  

Prof. Lyons is concurrently a visiting scholar at Boston College.  In 2014, she was an NEH Summer Institute Participant in a seminar titled “Representations of the ‘Other’: Jews in Medieval England,” at Oxford University, UK.  In 2013 she held the Charles T. Wood Dissertation Grant from the Medieval Academy of America, and in 2011-2013 she held the Samuel H. Kress Institutional Fellowship in European Art, Institut national d’histoire de l’art, Paris.  

Other prestigious fellowships include a 2010 travel award from the International Committee of the Corpus Vitrearum Medii Aevi [Corpus of Medieval Stained Glass] in order to attend the 25th International Colloquium of the Corpus Vitrearum in Saint Petersburg, Russia; and a 2009 Laney Graduate School Competitive Research Award for dissertation research at the Index of Christian Art, Dumbarton Oaks, Washington, D.C.
