Ithaca Music Forum Friday: Pop Music/Philosophy lecture on Beyoncé, Rihanna & "Post-Feminism."

The Ithaca Music Forum is pleased to announce its third event, UNC philosopher Robin James on "Leaning Into The Red: Beyoncé, Nicki, Missy, and Rihanna's Black Feminist Responses to 21st-Century 'Post-Feminism.'" Friday @ 5pm in the Whalen McHenry Lounge

UNC Charlotte philosopher Dr. Robin James will come to IC on Friday to deliver her talk "Leaning Into The Red: Beyonce, Nicki, Missy, and Rihanna's Black Feminist Responses to 21st-Century 'Post-Feminism.'”  

A scholar of phenomenology, gender, race, and popular music, Dr. James is author of the books Resilience & Melancholy: Pop Music, Feminism, Neoliberalism (2015) and The Conjectural Body: Gender, Race, and the Philosophy of Music (2010).  Her talk is part of the Ithaca Music Forum, a new initiative of the Ithaca College School of Music, committed to giving public voice to innovative music scholarship.    She’ll be speaking at the Whalen Center for Music (in the fourth-floor McHenry Lounge) on Friday, November 11, at 5pm.  A reception with food and drink will follow.  The event is free, and we especially welcome those from outside the IC School of Music.   Facebook event at https://www.facebook.com/events/1803105719975118/
