"The Last Five Years" recounts Jamie and Cathy’s love story from beginning to end. This story is told from the two characters’ perspectives as well as two perceptions of time; Jamie’s side of the story moves from from beginning to end, whereas Cathy’s side moves from the end to the beginning. Director Secor says, “In the production, we explore the night Jamie returns to confront Cathy, who has been trapped at the beginning of their relationship.”

"The Last Five Years" holds a special connection to composer Jason Robert Brown as it is an artistic retelling of his relationship with his first wife and was written during the couple’s divorce. When Jason Robert Brown visited Ithaca College years ago, he showcased some songs from the show while he was still writing it. This autobiographical musical is now a sensation among contemporary musical theatre fans.
