Diversity and Inclusion Discussion Circle Program: Wednesday, February 8

02/07/17

Contributed by Jaimie Voorhees

The Diversity and Inclusion Discussion Circle invites members of the campus community to attend its weekly gatherings on Wednesdays at noon in Klingenstein Lounge. One to two times a month, a guest presenter leads a discussion to take a deeper look at a topic related to diversity and inclusion.  During the Wednesday sessions where there are no presentations scheduled, we share reactions to current events and/or discuss presentations and articles that relate to the topic of diversity and inclusion.

This month our scheduled presenter will be Dr. Nia Makepeace, assistant professor in the department of education.  Her presentation, Implicit Biases Explicitly Named: Encouraging a Self-Study, invites critical reflection on individual and collective identities that influence attitudes.  Acknowledging the complexity of identity, staff, students, and faculty attendees will be encouraged to name, interrupt, & study sources of assumptions and belief systems.

Please join us this Wednesday, February 8 at noon in Klingenstein Lounge. Come with an open mind and willingness to learn.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Jaimie Voorhees at jvoorhees@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-3118. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
