Professor Srijana Bajracharya presented a paper at the 13th Annual International Conference on Environmental, Cultural, Economic and Social Sustainability in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on January 19th, 2017.

Srijana Bajracharya, from the Department of Health Promotion and Physical Education, presented a paper titled, “A Cross-cultural Assessment of Pro-environmental Behaviors (PEB) from Two Communities: A Pilot Study”.  This study was a part of her sabbatical leave activity.  The purpose was to pilot test the study and see if the methods including the instrument is adequate.  Additional purpose was to see if there is a relationship between individual’s perceptions about themselves and the nature and their pro-environmental behavior with special focus on reducing solid waste and also see if there is a cultural differences between populations living in two countries, London and Tompkins County.

Results indicated that the comparison on the scores on various constructs and PEB showed no difference between two countries accept on 3 constructs within the model used in the study. Although the instrument reliability was adequate for all of the constructs, a random and bigger sample is critical to be able to see the clear relationship between participants’ perceptions and the PEB.
