Romulus Linney’s one-act play “Can Can” is set to take the Earl McCarroll Studio Theatre stage in Ithaca College’s Dillingham Center. Performances will be held on Saturday, February 18th at 8:00 pm, Sunday, February 19th at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm, and Monday, February 20th at 8:00 pm. “Can Can” is a student directing project directed by Aaron Roberts ’17, who is also serving as the production’s scenic designer.
Tickets for “Can Can” are free but reservations are required. To reserve tickets e-mail icstudio2tam@gmail.com beginning Monday, February 13th and indicate a first and second choice of performance date and time. All tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and must be picked up at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the performance.
“Can Can” intertwines the soliloquies of an American ex-GI as he rehashes his brief love affair with a French girl, and that of a Nashville housewife as she tells of a strong connection to an older, country woman. Though the play is only eight pages long, director Roberts plans to turn those eight pages into an hour-long journey of love and loss. Roberts will be incorporating music, fabrics, and choreography into the piece. He says, “music transports us; it reminds the soul what it is to live in poetry and be free to dance around the room.”
The cast of “Can Can” includes Justin Albinder ‘18, Eunice Akinola ‘17, Maggie Gillette ‘19, Lucy Gladstone ‘19, Leah Saltzer ‘19, and Rachel Schardt ‘17. The creative team includes stage manager TJ Lyons ‘19, sound designer Ron Ziomek ‘19, assistant director Tyler Struble ‘19, lighting designer Teddy Kosciuszek ‘19, properties coordinator Olive Barrett ‘17, and assistant stage manager Sydney Scheer ‘20.
