The Handwerker Reading Series proudly presents some of the best writing by Department of Writing faculty and students this Thursday night at 6:00 PM in the Handwerker Gallery (Gannett Center).
Thursday's reading will feature creative writing from across the genres by the following writers:
Derek McKown received a BA in Philosophy from CSU San Bernardino, an MFA in Creative Writing from Syracuse University, and a PhD in English & Creative Writing from Texas Tech University. His poems, reviews, and essays have been published in many noted journals and anthologies. Greenhouse Review Press published Arrows in Hand, a book of poetry, in 2008. He has taught creative writing and literature at several universities and colleges in California, Texas, and New York over the past twenty years, and now teaches in the Writing Department of Ithaca College.
Kecia Romiel is a senior Writing major and Still Photography minor. She grew up in Harlem, New York and has been writing and taking photographs for as long as she canremember. Kecia's passions are heavily based in image-making accompanied by her poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. She aims to pair stories from her life with images she has created while traveling to different parts in the world like London, Amsterdam, and Greece.
Ash (The Spoken) Williams is a sophomore Writing major from Philadelphia, PA. His true passions lie within poetry and the art form of spoken word, as well as photography. Writing for almost ten years now, his love as always been trying to connect his experience of just one life on this planet and use words and voice to make connections with others.
Tylor Colby is a senior Writing major with a concentration in nonfiction. They are a former co-editor of Buzzsaw Magazine, running the publication’s satire section, and after graduation will be pursuing a career in education. Tylor’s writing style generally works with a mixture of poetic and essayistic elements.
The Department of Writing hopes many of you will come out for this exciting night of exciting and diverse creative writing.
