We are writing to update the Ithaca College community on our most recent bargaining session with the union representing part-time, per-course and full-time, one-year faculty, which took place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21. The college administration deeply values all of its faculty, and has been working to address their concerns while at the same time maintaining the long-term financial viability of the college.
Regarding the part-time negotiations, the neutral federal mediator worked with the parties to try to fashion a solution to the wage issue by bridging the gap between their formal wage proposals. Both parties agreed to meet again for an additional bargaining session on Sunday, March 26, at 1:00 p.m.
Regarding the full-time negotiations, the parties executed 6 additional Tentative Agreements, bringing the total Tentative Agreements reached in the full-time negotiations at this point to 17. As with the part-time bargaining unit, the parties will be meeting again on March 26 with an eye toward trying to reach agreements on the remaining open items, including the important issue of job security.
The college is very pleased with the progress made during Tuesday’s negotiating session and believes that continued bargaining can result in an agreement by the conclusion of the Sunday session. We intend to work diligently with the union bargaining committee and the mediator to reach an agreement and avoid the two-day strike announced for March 28 and 29.
