Over the weekend 52 students attended the 2017 National Conference of Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in Memphis, Tennessee. The students were accompanied by Associate Professor James Pfrehm, Modern Languages and Literatures, and Rasoul Rezvanian, Associate Dean/Business.

Unlike meetings of academic professional organizations, NCUR is a gathering of young scholars and presenters from all institutions of higher learning and from all corners of the academic curriculum.

Through this annual conference, NCUR creates a unique environment for the celebration and promotion of undergraduate student achievement, provides models of exemplary research and scholarship, and helps to improve the state of undergraduate education.

Senior Jamie Shum from the Park School of Communications was featured on NCUR 2017’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages. Her presentation was titled “The Effects of Personality Types (Introversion-Extraversion) on Promoting Feminism on Social Media Platforms”.

Senior Daniel Tjie shared his experience:

“I had an amazing time at NCUR 2017 at the University of Memphis, in Memphis, TN. I explored the campus, attended other Ithaca College students’ presentations, presentations of interest by students across the United States, and the Memphis Means Music concert, visited downtown Beale Street, tried the BBQ ribs (which were delicious), and gave a 15-minute presentation of my research project. As a graduating Senior in May 2017, this was a perfect balance of a short vacation, meeting other peers and professionals, showcasing my and seeing a variety of subjects of other students' hard work at a national level, and representing Ithaca College.”

Congratulations to all the students who attended!

Next year’s conference will take place April 5-7 at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma.
